Philadelphia Eagles are Early Super Bowl Favorites for Bettors

Philadelphia Eagles - Super Bowl bettors favorites

The betting pendulum swung from underdogs to slight favorites for Philly over the Chiefs.

Bettors flocked to early Super Bowl lines and put their money on Philadelphia Eagles. However, analysts think the first money comes from fans excited to see the NFC Champions back in the Super Bowl when they won their first title.

Following the NFC and AFC championship games, most online sportsbooks had Kansas City as a slight favorite or had the fun as a pick ’em. However, the Eagles utterly dominated the San Francisco 49ers with a 31-7 win, and the Chiefs won 23-20 in the battle of two incredible quarterbacks.

The spread changed the day after the games after an inflow of money went to the Eagles. The Super Bowl will occur in Glendale, Arizona, on February 12. Some Pennsylvania sportsbook outlets like Wind Creek/Betfred had Eagles by 2.5 points. FanDuel and FOX Bet offered a more conservative point spread of 1.5, although they had inflated vig of -120 to bet on Philadelphia.

Lines looked differently before the NFC and AFC Championship games, and DraftKings had Chiefs as a potential -1 favorite. However, those lines changed after the games ended. Caesar Sportsbook moved the line by 2 points in the Eagle’s favor on Sunday night.

Adam Pullen explained the line change. First, the market moved strongly towards Philadelphia. He stated that some of the money early came on the Chiefs, but most of the bets soon favored the Eagles.
You could have found a -125 moneyline on Eagles at BetMGM on Monday morning, and FanDuelhad a similar line at -126.

If you consider betting on points over/under, most bookmakers have the line at 49.5, while Betway and DraftKings offer 50.

The Game Will Draw Enormous Local Interest

With so many storylines behind the Super Bowl, analysts expect massive attention from the bettors. It is already the single biggest betting event for sportsbooks. By choosing PA sportsbooks you can bet on any sporting event, including the Super Bowl. This edition will host two NFL top-seeded teams with electric quarterbacks in Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes. Another caveat PA bettors remember is that Andy Reid was Philadelphia’s coach from 1999-2012.

We could see a unique special interest across the state, with Eagles taking a central stage. In the first Philadelphia Super Bowl victory, when the Eagles took down New England Patriots as underdogs, Pennsylvania had no legal sportsbooks.

The NFC Championship game had a dominant defensive and run game performance from the Eagles. San Francisco’s QB Brock Purdy was injured in the first quarter when a tight end tried to block a pass rush from the right side. The injury negated the 49ers passing attack, and one of the best defenses in the league held the visiting team to just 164 yards of offense with three fumble recoveries and three QB sacks.

The Hurt Quarterback Willed the Teams to the Ultimate Goal

Jalen Hurts didn’t play to his regular season standards, and he didn’t have to, as he is still recovering from the shoulder sprain.

Patrick Mahomes also has a lingering injury from the Divisional round when he suffered a high-ankle sprain. However, hobbling Mahomes put on a show and led the Chiefs to the third Super Bowl in four years. Joe Burrow played relatively well but had two costly turnovers. The game’s pivotal moment came on the last drive when Mahomes scrambled for a first down and was hit out of bounds, leading to a 15 yards penalty. Additional yards placed the ball comfortably in the field goal range, and Harrison Butker kicked a 45-yard winning field goal.

While Mahomes is probable NFL MVP, sportsbooks have Hurts as a slight favorite to win Super Bowl MVP. BetRivers has odds for other Eagles players in MVP contention. Hurts has +125, A.J. Brown at +1600, and DeVonta Smith and Miles Sanders with +3000.

Pennsylvania has 14 online sportsbooks, and MVP betting is among hundreds of markets available for the biggest sporting event in the US. In addition, with the game approaching, bettors will have unique betting bonuses and boosts.

Among bettors, those that took Philadelphia at 20/1 or 25/1 before the season are most interested in the outcome of the Super Bowl. However, they do have the option to hedge now.
